I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with oral mast cell tumors?
Willa (almost 8 1/2 years old now) had one removed from her side 24 months ago (Stage II). Today, I had a biopsy done on a lump in her mouth (above her upper incisors, on the gum tissue). It's another mast cell tumor. The vet (Dr. Barney of Barney & Russum in Fairfield) said he's never seen an oral mast cell tumor before. He's given Willa up to a year. He will remove as much of the tumor as possible on Tuesday morning... but I'd like to know more about oral mast cell tumors. Is there any way (other than radiation or chemo) to slow this down just a little bit so that I might be able to have a little more time with my Willa? Cindy |

Hi Cindy,
I'm so sorry to hear about Willa. I can't offer any advice since I haven't experienced anything like this before but I can offer my thoughts and well wishes. Please let us know if there's anything we can do. Joe |

Hi Cindy--
I'm very sorry to hear about your puppy. I don't have any experience with the mast cell tumors, but I recently spent quite a bit of time up at UC Davis for a different type of issue for my bulldog. While I was there, I had the chance to talk to a few other owners, and I understand that Davis is doing several new treatments for cancer. I'm not sure if any would apply for your Willa, but it may be worth checking... Judith |
