Hello,

I'm doing some research on the cost of cherry eye surgery -stitching, not removal. Can anyone provide info on what your vet costs were? I've been able to gently massage it back into place, but it'll come out again for sure. This happened to our Newfoundland, but a gentle massage returned it into place for good. I suspect this is not the case for my bully.

I see a few of you recommend Trupanion pet insurance, anyone have an experience in getting this procedure covered by them? I see they have a 30 day waiting period, and of course my 12 week bully's cherry just showed up yesterday.

Anyhow, gathering info to see whether I should just pay for it on my own. Thanks in advance.

Michael

I can't comment on cost but if you are looking for the best eye care/surgery for your pooch consider Dr. Hacker in El Cerrito. His staff is awesome and he is very experienced and knowledgable; used to be at the Davies doggie eye clinic.

It won't be cheap that is for sure but if you want a specialist go to Hacker. (unfortunate name I know...)

Thanks for the info. Hopefully he doesn't live up to his name...:)

I know-the name. I take my Willow there for her eye trouble and she is terrified of vets and stuff and this one she does ok with so at least the doggie bed-side manner is good.

We take Rossi to Parkway Vet in Dublin and they roughly charge $300-$400 with a 40-50% success rate. They referred us to Animal Eye Care in Fremont who specializes in Eye Care and they charge about $2000, 97+% success rate, since it's all they do. We inquired at Barney and Russum in Fairfield and it's about $570-$790 with a 95% success rate.

These are all regarding the tack down procedure only. Not sure about removal since it's not something we're looking for.

We decided on going with Barney and Russum and he has surgery scheduled for this upcoming Thursday. Good luck!

Dr. Barney is great and his specialty is bullies. We drive from Pittsburg to Fairfield all the time to see him. In my opinion his price is very reasonable compared to all of the others and you can be sure your baby will be well cared for.
